Our OFTEC Certified Engineers can survey your site & tank to provide you with a FREE, no obligation cost-effective quote, this will include a detailed outline of what will be done.

That’s a hard question, every oil tank location and condition is different, each has its own requirements. We divide each quote into three sections.

1. Labour is charged in half days, our survey will explain how much labour you will need. A standard domestic oil tanks generally takes half a day, that’s about £350 ballpark, £750 would be for a full day.

In situations where the location is challenging a whole day has been needed.

Importantly oil tank installations must comply with Building and OFTEC regulation. We will bring you a copy of the regulations if you have a FREE site assessment.

2. Materials are usually made up of tank base construction or alteration. OFTEC have mandatory requirements for oil tank bases that need to be met. Old tanks can be just sat on the soil. We have also seen older tank bases that were not robust enough for the size of tank. Sometimes the location of the tank means a fire screen can be needed to form a barrier.

We will show you the regulations and advise on the most cost-effective solution for you if needed.

Engineers will perform the tank changeout as below: -

  1. Remove oil from the original tank and hold in a temporary tank
  2. Disconnect fuel lines and connect to temporary fuel supply if needed.
  3. Remove old tank from its base.
  4. Site new tank ensuring OFTEC regulations are met
  5. Connect to fuel lines.
  6. Commission and provide customer with OFTEC TI/133 survey certificate
  7. Remove old tank and any contaminated fuel.
  8. See our guide on tank removals "click here"

3. Domestic Oil Tank Costs. We will advise you on the size and volume you will need. We will also provide you with different tank options and makes. You can then research the most cost-effective oil tank. If you wish you can then buy the tank and fitting kit and have it delivered to your address, we will take it from there. This means you know you’re getting the best deal on a new tank. Examples below show you rough guides to tank prices.

The SL1000BT DESO 1000 Litre Slimline Bunded Oil Tank at around £1275.00 and the similar SL1250BT 1250 Litre version at around £1374 inc. VAT.

Vertical, cylindrical tanks are more cost effective with a V1230BT DESO at about £1138.80 inc.

Domestic Oil Tank Replacement – What you need to know!

This guide helps you understand the steps we take when replacing your tank.

Domestic oil tanks can hold up to 3500 litres of kerosene fuel, most domestic oil tanks hold between 1000 to 2500 litres. If your oil tank should fail, you will be facing huge costs for decontamination of the environment. Most domestic oil tanks fail during filling, the pressure and force of the kerosene being pumped into the tank causes rupture. Signs of tank deterioration are: -

  1. The green plastic turning white.
  2. Cracking appearing around joint areas.
  3. Leaks.
  4. Distortion of the shape of the tank
  5. A smell of kerosene.

When you stasrt the process of oil tank replacement you may well be quoted for a single skin replacement tank. OFTEC (Oil Firing Technical Association) say “we recommend that secondary containment is always provided. This is normally achieved by either choosing an integrally bunded tank or constructing a bund around a tank. The bund must be capable of holding at least 110% of the tank’s contents.” You can check this on the official web site. Additionally, if there is any chance that a spill can enter any controlled water source it is likely you will require a bunded tank. Most tanks are near drains… be responsible  and go bunded tank. It will pay dividends when you sell your house during the survey.
